Courses Offered at Kwale Teachers’ Training College (KTTC)

Kwale TTC offers approved professional training programs designed to equip future educators with the skills and knowledge required for effective teaching under Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

🎓 1. Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE)

This is the flagship program currently offered at KTTC. It prepares trainees to teach children in the early years of development, promoting play-based and learner-centered methods to develop great teachers.

  • Duration: 3 years (full-time)
  • Target Group: KCSE graduates with a minimum mean grade of C (plain)
  • Focus Areas: CBC teaching strategies, inclusive education, digital literacy, classroom management

🎓 2. Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)

This course equips learners with skills to teach in lower and upper primary levels, nurturing great teaching professionals.

  • Target Group: KCSE mean grade of C (plain) and above
  • Focus Areas: Child psychology, instructional materials design, curriculum implementation

Newly constructed Kwale Teachers Training College (TTC) in Kwale County, is set to open its doors this October. The inaugural college built in Kinango Sub- County will be the second public TTC in the coastal region after the Mombasa-based Shanzu Teachers Training College. The College will admit its first bunch of 134 trainees, who are teachers duly registered by the Teachers Service commission (TSC), for a one-year upgrading program. Among the group, 38 students will be upgrading from certificates in Early Child Development to Diplomas in Early Child Development while the remaining 98 will upgrade from P1 Certificates to Diplomas in Teaching. Early this year, the Ministry of Education directed all Teachers Training Colleges to suspend training of P1 Certificates and enroll students in Diplomas in Teaching with competency-based pedagogies. KWALE TTC OFFICIALLY OPENS DOORS FOR STUDENTS

The education sector in Kwale County has received a major boost after the Sh300 million Kwale Teachers Training College (KTTC) opened its doors for students. The college, at Bang’a in Kinango sub-county, becomes the second-largest teachers’ training college in the Coast region after Shanzu TTC in Mombasa County and allows young people in Kwale to continue their education after completing high school. Speaking to the Nation, pioneer Principal Hellen Machuka said the inaugural admissions were made on October 12 and about 30 students are undergoing orientation. “We received the first 30 students, who are upgrading to diplomas in early childhood development and in primary teacher education for one year,” she said, adding that 134 trainees are expected in the intake. Kwale Teachers College Project transform Kwale’s history and perception

Kwale Teachers Training College (KTTC) has emerged as a significant development project that has transformed the history and perception of Kwale County. The establishment of the college was a vision shared by former Governor Salim Mvurya and current governor Fatuma Achani, who served as the Deputy Governor at that time. KTTC, which commenced operations in 2019, is set to witness its first batch of students graduating soon. The college can accommodate up to 800 students, according to School Principal Hellen Machuka. As the 2023 admissions continue, the college is anticipating an influx of over 600 new students.
